ABSTRACT

This survey was carried out to describe the composition of fish community in the Lagoon of Reception of Water of DAE between the months of March and July of 2005. A total of 11 species were registered, distributed in 9 families and 5 orders. The order Characiformes, with 7 species, was the most representative, while Acestrorrynchus lacustris and Astyanax bimaculatus were the most abundant species with relationship to the frequency. The captured species were submitted to the biometric analysis. For this, 5 parameters of the external anatomy of the animals were considerate to compose a base of data for each species, according to the methodology proposed by Gallego et al. (1995). The anatomical indexes were calculated to enable an evaluation of this program like a numeric taxonomic key. Then, 9 individuals, called “specimens-problem”, were submitted to the program and had your compared indexes. The most of the specimens was resolved with success. In this study, the biometry was shown as an important tool for the characterization and discussion about the proximity between the species.
